Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce Hosts the 2024 Local Civics Bee Competition

ELLENSBURG, WA – October 17, 2023 - The Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce hosts the local competition of the 2024 National Civics Bee for middle-schoolers at Hal Holmes Community Center in Ellensburg on Saturday, April 6, 2024. In partnership with The Civic Trust of the U.S Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the National Civics Bee is an initiative aimed at encouraging more young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities.

The National Civics Bee is an annual competition that encourages youth to engage in civics and contribute to their communities. In the first round of the contest, local 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will participate in an essay competition. Judges will then select 20 finalists to participate in our local competition: a live quiz event testing civics knowledge. The top 3 students from the Central Washington competition will win prizes: 1st Place: $500, 2nd Place: $250 and 3rd Place: $125 as well as advance to the state competition to be held in summer 2024. The finalist from the state bee will move onto the national competition fall of 2024 in Washington D.C.

By writing a 500-word essay, students get a chance to dive into the world of civics, understanding its relevance in everyday life and the business community. It's more than just an opportunity to learn – there's also significant prize money on the line! Showcase your knowledge, refine your writing skills, and stand a chance to win big. The essay submission portal opens November 13, 2023 and closes January 8, 2024.
